The Al Baraka Symposium is closely linked to Al Baraka Group, a relationship rooted in the vision of the Group’s founder, Shaikh Saleh, may Allah have mercy on him, a pioneer of Islamic banking. He believed that the success of Islamic banking required a complementary foundation in Islamic jurisprudence to guide its practices and establish the principles and rules governing their compliance with Sharia. The Symposium emerged from this vision, evolving from a series of scholarly discussions on Islamic jurisprudence into a symposium organized by the Group’s subsidiaries, before coming under Al Baraka Group’s comprehensive sponsorship, encompassing both organization and funding. Throughout these stages, the Symposium developed considerably, broadening its reach and influence across many countries.
Before his passing, Shaikh Saleh, may Allah have mercy on him, decided to entrust the management and funding of the Symposium to the waqf established specifically for that purpose. It thus became one of the events administered by Al Baraka Forum. With its scholarly and jurisprudential legacy, the Symposium remains among the achievements in which Al Baraka Group takes greatest pride. The Group therefore continues to support its progress towards fulfilling its objectives, honoring its founder’s legacy and contributing to the dissemination of knowledge in Islamic banking.
